Anfield opened in 1884 — and it was actually Everton who were its first tenants, until they left in 1892 and the stadium's founder set up a new club to fill it: Liverpool. Four stands: the huge Main Stand (20,676 seats, expanded in 2016), the Anfield Road Stand (15,697, completed in 2024), the legendary Kop (12,850) and the Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand (11,762) — together 61,276 seats, the fourth-largest in the Premier League. The Kop is named after Spion Kop hill in South Africa, where hundreds of Liverpool-born soldiers fell in a battle there in 1900. And before every kick-off, "You'll Never Walk Alone" rises from that stand — a tradition born in 1963 and unbroken since. Attendance record: 61,905 spectators against Wolves in the FA Cup, 1952.

After the match, shuttles run back from Walton Lane for an hour and a half.
Is there parking at Anfield?
In fact, no — there is no public matchday parking at Anfield, and parking around the stadium is for residents only. Stanley Park car park is reserved for disabled-badge holders and season-ticket holders over the age of 65 only, and enforcement is strict on concert days too. Walton Breck Road closes to traffic about an hour and a half before kick-off. The clear-cut recommendation: park in the city center and take the Soccerbus, route 917 or a taxi (about a quarter of an hour, with organized taxi ranks around the stadium for the return trip too).
