Mapei Stadium — Città del Tricolore stands at Piazzale Atleti Azzurri d'Italia 1, in the Mancasale district in the north of the city of Reggio Emilia — not in the town of Sassuolo, which is in the province of Modena, about thirty kilometers away. It was built in 1994 on the English model, meaning stands close to the pitch; the club itself describes the aim of the design as 'excellent sightlines from every stand.' Sassuolo has played its home matches there since the 2013/14 season, and since 2014 the stadium has been held under concession by the Mapei group, the club's owner. It's also used by A.C. Reggiana, the team of the city in which it stands. The official capacity is disputed between sources, so we'll state it cautiously: about 21,500 seats. The breakdown of the stands per the club's official table: Tribuna Ovest (the western, main stand) 5,137 seats, Tribuna Est (the eastern) 6,573, Tribuna Sud (the southern, home end) 5,000, and Tribuna Nord (the northern, away stand) 4,000, alongside hospitality boxes, a VIP stand and a press stand. As part of a project called 'an open stadium without barriers,' the dividing barriers between the pitch and the stands were reduced, and the stadium's pitch was voted the best in Serie A in the 2025/26 season, in a vote by away-team captains, referees and broadcast directors.
FAQ
How do you get tickets for a Sassuolo match?
Tickets for a Sassuolo match are sold on the club's official ticket portal, and at box offices outside the stadium on match day. Official sale goes through the club's own ticket portal (ticket.sassuolocalcio.it), and also at Sassuolo's official store, at the outlets of the official ticketing system, and on match day at the stadium box offices. Note a small detail the club stresses: the box offices are outside, in Piazzale Atleti Azzurri d'Italia square, not inside the stadium — the club explicitly asks people not to look for them indoors. The box-office opening time varies by kick-off time and is published on the ticket page for each match separately. What's important for a tourist to know in advance: the ticket is personalized under Italian law, and a valid ID must be shown both when buying and at entry — stewards verify that the name on the ticket matches the person presenting it, and entry will be refused if there's no match. This also applies to children: for children under 14 the club issues a free ticket, but it's personalized and requires photos of ID for the child and for the accompanying adult. Infants born in 2021 or later enter free with no allocated seat, accompanied by an adult. There is one obstacle, and only one: Tribuna Sud, the home end, is closed to anyone without a 'Sassuolo Card' — the club's fan card. It's issued in the holder's name, in person at the training center or the stadium, and issuing it also requires an Italian tax ID number — which makes it impractical for a tourist. The simple solution: all the other home stands don't require it. The sale order for a single match: first a priority window for season-ticket holders (up to two tickets, only in their own stand), in parallel an advance sale for the away stand that closes the evening before the match and can't be bought on match day, and only then general sale open to everyone. Two more points of honesty. The first: for any given match the police or the government sports-events authority may impose sale restrictions, usually a ban on sales to residents of the away team's area — so it's always worth reading that match's ticket page. The second: we found no official instruction explaining what applies to a foreign tourist in this context, and we found no official statement of which payment methods the portal accepts — so we won't invent an answer here. TikTik obtains tickets for Sassuolo matches at Mapei Stadium without a fan card, without sale windows, and without having to deal with Italian documentation requirements.
How do you get to Mapei Stadium?
First, the thing that trips up the most travelers: Sassuolo's stadium isn't in Sassuolo. The town of Sassuolo sits in the province of Modena, and that's where only the club's offices and training center are located (Mapei Football Center, Via Giorgio Squinzi 1). All home matches are played in a completely different city — Reggio Emilia, in a different province, about thirty kilometers north, roughly a 35-minute drive. Anyone who books a hotel in Sassuolo will find themselves with an hour's round trip every match night. Book accommodation in Reggio Emilia. The exact address: Piazzale Atleti Azzurri d'Italia 1, Reggio Emilia, in the north of the city. Reggio Emilia has two train stations, and they must not be confused. The central station, Reggio Emilia, on Piazzale Marconi, is the station for regular and regional lines; from it to the stadium is about two and a quarter kilometers, roughly a half-hour walk — and that's exactly what Reggiana officially publishes, 'about 30 minutes on foot.' The second station, Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana, is the high-speed train station and sits outside the center — and it's actually the one closer to the stadium: about 1.7 kilometers, roughly a 22-minute walk along Via Gramsci, and that's also the route the club itself recommends. (Reggiana writes 'ten minutes on foot' from the Mediopadana — that's too optimistic an estimate; the real route is longer.) By bus: the operator in Reggio Emilia is SETA, and the stop near the stadium isn't called 'Stadio' but Parcheggio - P.le Lari, about 180 meters from the venue. According to SETA and Sassuolo's own stadium page: city line 5 runs every day of the week including Saturdays and holidays, and connects the central station with the Mancasale area — that's your line. Minibus M runs on weekdays only, and on Saturdays and holidays it doesn't stop at Piazzale Lari at all. An important warning about two official pages that are out of date: Reggiana's website still recommends 'line H,' and the mapeistadium.it website still lists 'lines 8, 12 and minibus H.' In SETA's line catalog in effect from June 2026, line H no longer exists, and lines 8 and 12 don't run through the stadium area at all. Don't follow them — follow line 5. And one more nice trap: there's a train station called 'Reggio Stadio' just 220 meters from the stadium, on the line to Guastalla. It's tempting, but two things rule it out: its frequency is tiny, and the official timetable states explicitly that on Serie A matchdays, by order of the Reggio Emilia city council, this station is not operated at all. We found no dedicated match-day shuttle service. By car: home fans and locals enter from Tangenziale Nord at exit 4 towards Via Morandi and Via Gramsci; for away fans the club recommends the Reggio Emilia exit from the A1 motorway.
Is there parking at Mapei Stadium?
There's no parking right next to Mapei Stadium on match day — home fans park at six numbered car parks around the city. There's plenty of parking — just not where you'd be looking for it, and that's exactly the point. There's no available parking right next to the stadium on match day. Reggio Emilia city council runs a standing order in effect throughout the league season and for all cup and friendly matches, under which from 07:00 until two hours after the match ends, traffic is stopped and parking is banned — with towing — at Piazzale Lari, Piazzale Atleti Azzurri d'Italia, on Via and Piazzale Romano, at Piazzale Battisti, on Via Duò and at Piazzale del Grosso. The Piazzale Lari car park, which on a normal day is the stadium's free park-and-ride, is reserved on match day for away fans only, together with Via Romano. The car park of the 'I Petali' shopping center next to the stadium is also allocated to away fans, and the council explicitly asks Sassuolo fans and locals not to use it. What is open to you: the council publishes six numbered car parks for home fans, all of which are reached via Tangenziale Nord exit 4, from which you walk to the stadium along a marked walking route that the council publishes on a map. These are: P1 on Via Ruini (the Legacoop/Unipol car park, 479 spaces), P2 at the 'Ariosto' shopping center car park on Viale Morandi (1,612 spaces, the largest of all), P3 at the courthouse on Via Paterlini (810), P4 on Via Cadoppi (215), P5 at the national insurance institute on Via della Previdenza Sociale (322), and P6 at Piazzale Europa (810). Together, more than 4,000 spaces. Of all of them, only Piazzale Europa is officially defined on the council's page as free parking, open 24 hours a day — for the rest the council publishes no rate at all, so we won't invent one. Good news for anyone driving: Reggio Emilia's restricted traffic zone is the historic center only, about three kilometers to the south, and the stadium is entirely outside it — the route to it from the motorway doesn't touch it at all. For people with disabilities there's a dedicated car park, PH, with 50 spaces, entered from Via Duò, subject to prior approval; the council also runs a free shuttle service from home to the stadium's main entrance, with a limited number of spots per match and booking required up to three days in advance. And one final warning worth taking seriously: this is a parking ban with a towing order, not a recommendation.
How do you get from Israel to a Sassuolo match?
For a Sassuolo match, you fly from Tel Aviv to Milan, and from there take a high-speed train to the Mediopadana station in Reggio Emilia. Let's start with a fact that saves disappointment: as of now there's no direct flight from Tel Aviv to Bologna that's actually on sale. Bologna Airport's official flight schedule shows zero flights to Tel Aviv in August 2026, and Israel Airports Authority data shows the same thing. There is a listing for isolated dates in September and October, but the airline's own website doesn't show Bologna in its list of destinations — two contradicting sources, so we won't name any airline here. The practical route is to fly to Milan and continue by high-speed train, and Reggio Emilia is very well set up for this: the Reggio Emilia AV Mediopadana station sits directly on the Milan–Bologna high-speed line, and both high-speed rail operators stop there. Here's how it looks: a direct flight from Tel Aviv to Milan Malpensa (there are direct flights daily), from there a Malpensa Express train to Milano Centrale station — about 51 minutes, every half hour, departures from Centrale at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour from 05:25 to 23:25 — and from there a high-speed train to Mediopadana, about 45 minutes (Italo publishes a shorter time for its trains, so it depends on the train). From Mediopadana to the stadium: about a 22-minute walk. Alternatives that work: Rome Fiumicino with the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini in 32 minutes every quarter hour, and from there a high-speed train north; Venice, with a bus to the Venezia Mestre station in 20 minutes; and Verona and Bergamo also receive direct flights from Tel Aviv. Anyone who lands in Bologna anyway, from another destination: from the airport to the center there's the Marconi Express monorail, seven minutes to the central train station, running from 05:40 to midnight and, at peak hours, up to eight departures an hour — and from Bologna Centrale to Mediopadana it's just a 22-minute ride. And a warning that directly concerns the dates at the start of the season: the Italian rail network is carrying out infrastructure works on the high-speed line, and the official notice states that between 10 and 17 August, high-speed trains between Bologna and Milan run on the regular line in the section between Piacenza and Milan, that between 18 and 27 August a gradual return takes place, and that full speed resumes from 28 August. In practice, we checked in the booking system: a journey that usually takes about 45 minutes from Milan to Mediopadana takes more than an hour and a quarter during this period. The important point: the impact is on the Milan side only — from Bologna to Mediopadana the time stays at 22 minutes even in the middle of the works. So if you're flying in mid-August, either budget an extra hour from Milan, or come via Bologna.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where should you sit at Mapei Stadium?
At Mapei Stadium, the good choice for a tourist is Tribuna Est, the eastern stand — 6,573 seats, with no fan-card requirement. This is a small, intimate stadium, about 21,500 seats, built on the English model — and the club describes the design's aim in the words 'excellent sightlines from every stand.' In addition, as part of a project called 'an open stadium without barriers,' the dividing barriers between the pitch and the stands were reduced, and Reggiana notes that the nets on both curves have been removed. The result: close, open, and with no fences in front of your eyes. The atmosphere stand is Tribuna Sud, the southern one, home to the organized supporters, 5,000 seats — but note that in general sale it's open only to holders of the 'Sassuolo Card,' the club's fan card, so in practice it's closed to a tourist. The away stand is Tribuna Nord, the northern one, 4,000 seats, with its own separate entrance and separate car park; sales for it close the evening before the match. The good choice for a tourist is Tribuna Est, the eastern stand, the stadium's largest with 6,573 seats, divided into a central area and side areas: a side-on view, no fan-card requirement, and the family rate for children under 14 is also valid there. Anyone who wants the prestige side will choose Tribuna Ovest, the western stand, 5,137 seats — this is the main stand, where the hospitality boxes, VIP stand and press stand also sit. A note on roofs: the club officially documents a roof renovation for the east and west stands only; for the south and north there is no official statement, so we won't claim anything. Wheelchair spaces are placed, per the regulations, exclusively in the designated area in the west stand, regardless of the ticket bought. On entry itself, per the stadium regulations in the July 2026 edition: gates open about an hour and a half before the match; a valid ID is mandatory at the gate; there's a metal-detector and body check, and refusing the check means no entry; moving between stands is forbidden; and there's a total smoking ban across the whole venue — a clause added to the regulations this season. Banned: glass bottles, cans, pyrotechnics and smoke devices, lasers, weapons, motorcycle helmets, drones without written approval, professional recording equipment, and also large or pointed umbrellas. Banners, flags and drums require prior approval from the security committee via the club, in a request submitted no less than seven working days before the match. And one honest statement: bag policy and size limits don't appear in the regulations at all — there is a bag check, but no defined size, and we won't invent a number.
What's special about Sassuolo's 2026/27 season?
Sassuolo's 2026/27 season opens with a new coach, Alberto Aquilani, and with new leadership. A new coach, and new leadership too. In the dugout sits Alberto Aquilani, a former midfielder for Roma, Liverpool and the Italy national team — and, in his past, a Sassuolo player himself. The club announced his appointment on 12 June 2026 and presented him at a press conference on 4 July; if you saw him listed elsewhere, that's outdated information. He replaced Fabio Grosso, who left by mutual agreement in an official announcement on 4 June — the same Grosso who took the team back up to Serie A as Serie B champions in 2024/25. At the same time, the top of the pyramid also changed: CEO Giovanni Carnevali stepped down after thirteen years, and the club moved to a structure headed by president Carlo Rossi, vice-president Marco Squinzi and CEO Veronica Squinzi — members of the Squinzi family, the owners of Mapei. The sporting background: Sassuolo finished 2025/26 in 11th place in Serie A with 49 points. The club's historic high is sixth place in 2015/16 with 61 points, which was followed by its only European adventure ever — the Europa League group stage in 2016/17, including a 3-0 home win over Athletic Club. This summer brought young midfielder Vasilije Adžić on loan from Juventus, striker Kiernan Bowie on loan from Verona, and goalkeeper Ariante Moritz and defender Sebastian Walukiewicz signed permanently; departing were Tarik Muharemović to Leeds and Samuele Mulattieri to Verona. Italy's transfer window closes in early September, so the squad may still change. And the practical angle for a tourist, which may be the most important thing here: Sassuolo have no European matches this season. Their home schedule is 19 league matches plus one Coppa Italia match against Cesena — meaning almost everything falls on weekends, with just two midweek rounds in the whole season, on 28 October 2026 and 6 January 2027. That means it's easier to plan around a home match, and also that demand is less frantic than at the big clubs. One last detail that explains the club: it celebrated 106 years since its founding on 17 July 2026, and it's still a small-town team playing in Serie A — one of the nice stories in Italian football.
What is Sassuolo's big match in the 2026/27 season?
Sassuolo's big match is hosting Juventus at Mapei Stadium, in round four, in mid-September 2026. Let's start with honesty: Sassuolo have no derby in Serie A this season. Their natural rivals are Modena, the big city of their province, and Reggiana — the team of the city where they themselves play. But Modena are this season in Serie B and Reggiana in Serie C, so neither will appear on the schedule, and there's no Sassuolo–Reggiana match, in the league or in the cup. The odd situation remains: Sassuolo host in another team's city, and never meet them. The big match is hosting Juventus in round four, in mid-September 2026 — and here we need to be precise, because the Italian league has published two possible slots for it, not one: if Juventus play in the Europa League on 16 September, Sassuolo–Juventus will be held on Saturday 12 September at 18:00; if Milan play that same evening, the match will be pushed to Sunday 13 September at 20:45. Both dates are official, and the decision depends on the European draw. This is also the toughest ticket to get all season: a stadium of about 21,500 seats against the biggest away following in Italy. The rest of the home schedule at Mapei Stadium: the opener against Torino on Saturday 29 August 2026 at 18:30 — the only match all season with a final, confirmed kick-off time — followed by Milan on the weekend of 11 October, Lazio midweek on 28 October, Fiorentina on 1 November, Napoli on the weekend of 29 November, Parma on 20 December, Roma on the weekend of 21 February 2027, Bologna on 7 March, Atalanta on 4 April, and champions Inter in the final round, on 30 May 2027. Before all that there's another home match easy to miss: the Coppa Italia against Cesena, Monday 17 August 2026 at 18:30. And a warning worth reading before you book a flight: the Italian league has published official day and time only for the first five rounds. Every match from round six onwards has a known weekend, but the exact day and time are set only close to the event — so plan around a weekend, not around a kick-off time you saw on some website.
