About the stadium
City Ground opened on 3 September 1898 and sits on the south bank of the River Trent, in West Bridgford, right next to the historic Trent Bridge cricket ground — one of the most beautiful settings in English football. Capacity is 31,212, and the four stands are the Trent End behind the goal on the river side, the Brian Clough Stand, the main Peter Taylor Stand, and the Bridgford Stand. The attendance record was set on 28 October 1967: 49,946 spectators against Manchester United. In summer 2024, 4,196 safe-standing seats were installed at the stadium, mainly in the Bridgford Stand. The club has submitted a planning application to the local authority for an expansion worth more than £130 million — a first phase that would bring capacity to about 45,000 seats and a second phase reaching 52,500 by 2033 — but as of August 2026 the decision hasn't yet been made and is expected in September. Address: The City Ground, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, NG2 5FJ.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for a Nottingham Forest match?
Tickets for Nottingham Forest matches at the City Ground are first sold to MyForest members. Forest's season tickets have sold out and there's no free sale for new buyers — anyone wanting a season ticket joins a waiting list that only moves forward through non-renewals. For a single ticket, the club opens staggered sale windows for members by membership tier ahead of every match, and only what's left — rarely, for big league matches — reaches general sale. When the stadium sells out fully, the official ticket exchange opens, where members release seats they won't use; this is the only realistic route to an in-demand match. Ticketing is digital-only from the 2026/27 season. The away allocation stands at about 2,500 seats in the lower Bridgford Stand. TikTik obtains tickets for Forest matches without a membership and without a season ticket.
How do you get to City Ground stadium?
You get to City Ground from Nottingham train station — about a 20-minute walk or about a ten-minute bus ride. The station is about a kilometer and a half from the stadium, and the route is simple: leave the station, go down to the main road, and cross Trent Bridge; the stadium is right after the bridge on the riverbank, next to the cricket ground. From the city center it's a 15-to-20-minute walk — you simply follow the signs to the cricket ground. Alternatives: Nottingham's tram, whose nearest stop, Meadows Embankment, is about a 20-minute walk away, and city bus lines 5 through 11. For driving directions: NG2 5FJ, junctions 24 and 26 off the M1.
Is there parking at City Ground stadium?
City Ground has a very small car park, and priority in it goes to fans with disabilities and group coaches. Priority is also given to officials; the few spots that open up are sold on matchday only for about £10 each, first come first served. The club explicitly warns not to park on West Bridgford's residential streets — resident parking schemes are enforced there and the result is a fine. The car parks the club points to are Meadow Lane at Notts County's stadium, Cattlemarket, Lady Bay Sports Ground, and County Hall. The genuinely convenient solution is the city's Park & Ride system on the tram line: seven sites with about 5,000 free parking spaces.
How do you get from Israel to a Nottingham Forest match?
For a Nottingham Forest match you fly from Israel to London, and from there take a direct train to Nottingham. There's no direct flight from Tel Aviv to Nottingham, so the standard route is an East Midlands Railway train from London St Pancras International station to Nottingham station — the fastest trains make the trip in one hour and 33 minutes, the average is about an hour and 46 minutes, and there are about two trains an hour. You can easily do the trip round-trip in a single day and sleep in London.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the UK for the match?
Not a visa, but yes an entry authorization. Since 8 January 2025, Israeli citizens have been required to have a UK ETA. The cost is £20, it allows multiple entries and is valid for two years or until the passport expires - whichever comes first - and permits a stay of up to 6 months per visit. You apply on the official website or the UK ETA app. The response usually arrives within a day, but you should allow up to three working days, and you must not fly before the authorization has been received by email.
Where's the best place to sit at City Ground?
At City Ground the atmosphere is concentrated in the Trent End, the traditional home end behind the goal. The Trent End is on the river side, and that's where the Forza Garibaldi fan group operates, responsible for the flag displays and tifo before the big matches; blocks T7 to T9 in the lower tier are considered especially lively. A second focal point of atmosphere is the upper tier of the Bridgford Stand, directly above the away fans, since safe-standing seats were installed there. The Peter Taylor Stand is the main stand, facing the long Brian Clough Stand. Away fans sit in the lower Bridgford Stand, with block W as the safe-standing section for away fans. The away ticket office is in the Brian Clough Stand, about 20 meters from the away section, and opens two hours before an afternoon match.
What's special about Nottingham Forest?
Nottingham Forest won the European Cup twice in a row, in 1979 and 1980, under Brian Clough. The two stars on the club crest tell the story: Clough — one of the greatest managers in football history — brought a 1-0 win over Malmö in 1979 with a goal from Trevor Francis, and in 1980 a 1-0 win over Hamburg with a goal from John Robertson. A club from a mid-sized city, with a 31,000-seat stadium, held the biggest title in European club football two years running — an achievement no other English club of similar size has ever repeated. The stand names and the new square being planned are named after people from that era. Last season Forest returned to Europe and reached the Europa League semifinal, where it was stopped by Aston Villa.
What's Nottingham Forest's big match in the 2026/27 season?
Nottingham Forest hosts Leeds United at City Ground on Saturday, 22 August 2026. The season opens at home at 15:00 — both the season opener and the official debut of Oliver Glasner, appointed on 6 July 2026 on a three-year contract. The season's big home matches: Arsenal on 17 October, Manchester City on 7 November, Chelsea on 28 November, Manchester United on 20 February, and Liverpool on 17 April. The match with the biggest story is actually away: Glasner's return to Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace on 10 October, the club he won the FA Cup and Conference League with — and the return fixture against them at home on 8 May. Forest isn't playing in Europe this season. Match times may change according to TV scheduling.
