About the stadium
Elland Road has been Leeds United's home since 1897 — one of the oldest and loudest grounds in England, in the Beeston area southwest of the city center. Current capacity is 37,645. The four stands are named after the club's greats: the North Stand is named after Don Revie — the historic Kop, which to this day everyone still calls the Gelderd End after the road behind it — the East Stand is named after Jack Charlton, the West Stand after John Charles and the South Stand after Norman Hunter. The attendance record was set on 15 March 1967: 57,892 spectators against Sunderland. In January 2026 Leeds City Council approved a £150 million expansion plan that will raise capacity to 53,000 and bring the stadium up to UEFA Category 4 status. The first phase is the West Stand, growing from 8,000 to about 17,552 seats and due to be completed by the end of 2028 — and it's being built over the existing stand, so the stadium keeps operating at full capacity throughout the season. How do you buy tickets to a Leeds United match?
Tickets to Leeds United matches at Elland Road are only sold to holders of a My Leeds Membership. There's no open sale for league matches at Elland Road and you can't buy a ticket at the box office on matchday. To buy at all you need a My Leeds Membership, and even then sales open in five stages that begin about three to four weeks before the match: first to My Leeds Priority members, then to all members, and anyone who misses out goes into an online ballot — which last season had a win rate of only about 50 percent. About ten days before the match a ticket exchange opens, where members return seats they won't be using, and it stays open until 90 minutes before kick-off. New season tickets aren't sold at all — there's a waiting list that opened in July 2020, and renewing an existing season ticket required attendance at 80 percent of matches. How do you get to Elland Road Stadium?
You get to Elland Road Stadium by train to Leeds station and from there on a dedicated shuttle or a 35-minute walk. Leeds central train station is about a 35–40 minute walk from the stadium, which sits southwest of the city center near junction 2 of the M621. On matchday, First Bus runs two dedicated shuttle routes that leave 90 minutes before the match: route R2 from Sovereign Street in the center and route R3 from Thornbury Barracks and Pudsey bus station. Note that MCard and Day Rover tickets are not valid on these shuttle routes. From the center you can also take the regular routes 51 and 52 from Corn Exchange, or 55 and 55C from City Square. Is there parking at Elland Road Stadium?
There is parking at Elland Road, but from 2026/27 every space requires advance booking only. From 2026/27 the system has changed: the club itself now runs the stadium car parks and every space requires advance booking through the online ticketing system — no more paying on matchday. The Fullerton car park behind the West Stand is closed because of the construction works, and the club has arranged alternative parking off-site. The convenient alternative is the council's two Park & Ride sites, which open two and a half hours before the match: Temple Green at M1 junction 45 and Stourton at M621 junction 7 — about £6.50 per person or £21 per car with four passengers, advance booking only, with a maximum vehicle height of 2.35 meters. Note the road closures: Elland Road street closes a quarter of an hour before the final whistle and stays closed for at least an hour afterward.
