About the stadium
The Amex, officially named the American Express Community Stadium, opened in 2011 in Falmer, just outside Brighton. Capacity is 31,876 seats, and during the 2026/27 season it rises to 32,500 as part of the third phase of a £40 million upgrade program. The four stands: the West Stand — the biggest, three tiers, home to the executive boxes; the East Stand, also known as the family stand; and the North and South Stands behind the goals, both much smaller. The attendance record was set on 12 August 2023: 31,872 spectators against Luton. What really sets the place apart is the philosophy behind it — the stadium was built with a near car-free policy, replaced instead by an adjacent train station and a shuttle network, and that makes match day here one of the most convenient in the league. How do you get to the Amex?
You get to the Amex by train to Falmer station, less than a five-minute walk from the gates. This is the good part: the stadium has its own train station. From Brighton central the ride is nine to ten minutes, with about four trains an hour on match days, and from Lewes just about seven minutes. And here's the most important point: anyone holding a Premier League match ticket gets free travel on trains and buses within a defined zone — from three and a half hours before kickoff until three and a half hours after the final whistle. Brighton and Lewes stations are within the zone; anyone coming from further away buys a ticket only as far as the zone boundary — Haywards Heath to the north, Worthing to the west, Eastbourne to the east.
Is there parking at the Amex?
Almost not at all — the Amex runs only two park-and-ride lots, free with a match ticket. Parking here is very limited, and deliberately so. For a Brighton match you fly to London, and from there take a train to Brighton — about 58 minutes from London Victoria. The journey is especially fast on the Southern and Gatwick Express fast trains; from London Bridge with Thameslink it's about an hour and a minute.
