About the stadium
Villa Park opened in 1897 and has been home to Aston Villa ever since — designed by Archibald Leitch, the same architect who designed Selhurst Park. The four stands are the Holte End, Trinity Road, the North Stand and the Doug Ellis Stand. The regular capacity is 43,205 seats, but in the 2026/27 season it's reduced to about 37,000 only — the North Stand is closed for the whole season for its rebuilding. Once the work finishes in the summer of 2027, capacity will rise to over 50,000. The stadium's attendance record stands at 76,588 spectators from 1946, Villa Park has hosted more FA Cup semi-finals than any other ground, and it's one of the stadiums for Euro 2028.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for an Aston Villa match?
Tickets for Aston Villa matches at Villa Park are not sold on the open market — only to season ticket holders and club members. The order of access is: season ticket holders first, followed by paying club members, and only then — if anything is left — everyone else. Season ticket sales for 2026/27 have already closed, and the waiting list for a new season ticket is measured in years. Entry to the stadium is entirely digital through the club's app: there's no paper ticket and no PDF, and the barcode is generally only revealed one day before the match — a critical point for anyone arriving from abroad. TikTik gets tickets even for matches closed off through the official channel.
Why is it so hard to get a ticket for Villa Park specifically this season?
It's hard to get a ticket for Villa Park this season because the North Stand is closed, with about 6,000 fewer seats. The closure lasts the whole of the 2026/27 season, and capacity has dropped from 43,205 to about 37,000. After season ticket holders, away fans and corporate hospitality get their share, what's left for open sale is tiny. The situation is expected to change from the 2027/28 season, when the new stand opens and capacity passes 50,000.
How do you get to Villa Park?
You get to Villa Park by train — Witton and Aston stations are both less than a mile from the stadium. Both are connected to the central Birmingham New Street station. Bus routes 7 and 11 also serve the stadium area. Parking at Villa Park itself is for permit holders only, and on match days a traffic restriction zone operates on the surrounding streets — the train is the practical way in.
How do you get to an Aston Villa match from Israel?
For an Aston Villa match you fly to London and continue by train to Birmingham — there is no direct flight. The standard route: a flight to London, and from there a direct train from London Euston station to Birmingham New Street station. From there a short train to Witton or Aston station, both within walking distance of the stadium. Alternative: a flight with a connection to Birmingham Airport, which is connected by a direct train to New Street.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the UK for the match?
Not a visa, but yes an entry authorization. Since 8 January 2025, Israeli citizens have been required to have a UK ETA. The cost is £20, it allows multiple entries and is valid for two years or until the passport expires - whichever comes first - and permits a stay of up to 6 months per visit. You apply on the official website or the UK ETA app. The response usually arrives within a day, but you should allow up to three working days, and you must not fly before the authorization has been received by email.
Where is it best to sit at Villa Park?
At Villa Park the atmosphere is concentrated at the Holte End, the stand behind the goal and the loudest in the stadium. It's home to the most vocal fans — one of the strongest atmospheres in England. The Trinity Road and Doug Ellis stands run along the sides, with a better viewing angle. Note that the North Stand is completely closed this season, so all available tickets are concentrated in the other three.
Which competitions is Aston Villa playing in the 2026/27 season?
Aston Villa are playing in five competitions this season, including the Champions League and the European Super Cup. After winning the Europa League last season — 3-0 over Freiburg in the final held on 20 May 2026 in Istanbul — and finishing fourth in the Premier League with 65 points, they were placed directly into the Champions League league phase (8 matches, from 8 September 2026 to 27 January 2027). In addition: the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the European Super Cup against PSG on 12 August 2026 at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg. The manager is Unai Emery.
What's special about Villa Park?
Villa Park opened in 1897 and is one of the historic grounds of English football. It has hosted more FA Cup semi-finals than any other ground in England, and its attendance record — 76,588 spectators in a match against Derby County — was set in 1946 and hasn't been broken since. It has also been chosen as one of the stadiums for Euro 2028, and that's one of the reasons for the current upgrade.
