The physical box office hours are published anew before every match, not on a fixed schedule. This is one of Mendizorrotza's big advantages — it isn't out in the suburbs but inside the city itself, south of the historic centre, a comfortable walk from the old town and from the White Virgin Square. By public transport: the city's fast bus route, line 2 (2A and 2B), stops at the station officially named "Mendizorrotza". There's no tram to the stadium — extending the tram line toward Mendizorrotza is a future plan that hasn't been built yet. And something you need to know in advance: the city council closes roads around the stadium on match day — the section of Cervantes Avenue closes two hours before kickoff, and about 45 minutes before kickoff Rosalía de Castro, Salvatierrabide, Concha Espina and Aurteo close too, along with the whole of Cervantes Avenue. It's simplest to arrive on foot or by bus.

Not on match days — the Mendizorrotza car park closes by city council order, and the alternative is Mendizabala. The Mendizorrotza car park, about 500 spaces on Amadeo García de Salazar square, closes on match days by order of the Vitoria city council for security and evacuation reasons — from four hours before kickoff until about an hour after the match ends. The closure has been in effect since the 2025/26 season. The alternative the council itself directs people to is Mendizabala, about a thousand spaces within walking distance. Another alternative: the San Martín car park on Pintor Díaz de Olano street, 157 spaces, free in the evenings and on weekends. With street parking, watch out for two different regimes — the paid blue zone is enforced on weekdays between 10:00 and 14:00 and between 16:00 and 20:00, and on Saturday mornings only, and not enforced at all on Sundays, on public holidays or during the month of August; but spaces marked residents-only are enforced 24 hours a day, all year round, and that is exactly what you'll find in the residential neighborhoods around the stadium. The council itself recommends arriving by public transport, by bicycle or on foot.

For an Alavés match you fly to Madrid and then take a direct train to Vitoria-Gasteiz — there is no direct flight. There is no direct flight from Israel to the Basque Country — not to Bilbao and not to Vitoria. Vitoria's own airport, Foronda, is active but flies to only eight destinations, none of them Israeli, so don't look for a solution there. The direct destinations from Tel Aviv in Spain are Barcelona, Madrid, Málaga and Ibiza. That leaves two practical routes. The first, and the more convenient for most travelers: a flight to Madrid, and from there a direct Renfe train from Chamartín station to Vitoria-Gasteiz — about three to three and a half hours, with around nine departures a day. The second: a flight to Madrid or Barcelona with a connecting flight to Bilbao, and from Bilbao airport there's a direct bus line to Vitoria — line A3700 operated by Autobuses La Unión, about 22 trips a day, roughly every 45 minutes, from 5 a.m. until close to midnight, a journey of about 55 minutes. Bilbao airport is about 75 kilometers from Vitoria, so a taxi or rental car is also about an hour's drive.

At Mendizorrotza, the Tribuna main stand and the Preferente give the best angle, and Grada Polideportivo is the loud stand. The built-in advantage: Mendizorrotza is a single-tier bowl with 19,840 seats, so even the back seats are close to the pitch — there's no "third level" here like at the giant stadiums. The atmosphere is concentrated in Grada Polideportivo, the stand behind the goal where the club's organized supporters sit and where the noise comes from. For calm, family-friendly viewing: the Tribuna main stand or the Preferente facing it — the two long sides, with the best angle on the match. Behind the other goal is Grada Cervantes. Away fans enter through Gate 3. One thing worth knowing that can't be solved in advance: the club doesn't publish an official map of which stands are covered and which aren't, and Vitoria sits high inland, with weather that's cooler and rainier than the coast — it's worth bringing a coat just in case.

2026/27 is Alavés's first full season under coach Quique Sánchez Flores. The veteran coach, who has managed among others Atlético Madrid, Valencia, Watford and Getafe, took over the role on 3 March 2026 in the middle of a difficult season — after Eduardo Coudet left for River Plate — and led Alavés to survival. The road there went to the wire: the team finished in 14th place with 43 points, sealing survival only on matchday 37, with a 1-0 away win over Real Oviedo. Alavés are not playing in Europe this season. The transfer window was especially quiet — as of early August the club had not officially announced a single new signing for the first team, meaning Sánchez Flores started the season with the same squad that saved it the previous season. Before it, on 10 January 2027, Real Sociedad arrive for the second Basque derby. And from the other side of the scale: Barcelona arrive on matchday 21, on 24 January 2027, and Real Madrid close out the season at Mendizorrotza on matchday 37 — over the weekend of 22 to 23 May 2027, a match that could fall right on the title decision. Important for planning: La Liga only sets kickoff times about 15 to 20 days in advance, so the dates are known but the time will be confirmed later. Alavés opened the season at home, with a 3:0 win over Getafe on 15 August 2026, and their next home match is against Villarreal on Friday, 28 August.
