Eric Clapton in Birmingham — Monday, May 17, 2027, bp pulse LIVE

Eric Patrick Clapton is a British guitarist, singer, composer, and songwriter, associated with rock and blues. His career moved between bands that changed their sound along the way and independent work, in which he continued to move between blues, rock, pop, and other influences.
Clapton joined the Yardbirds in 1963, and later played with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. In 1966 he formed Cream with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, a rock trio that combined blues and rock. Among the songs associated with the band are Sunshine of Your Love and White Room.
After Cream broke up, Clapton formed Blind Faith with Ginger Baker, Steve Winwood, and Ric Grech. Later he formed Derek and the Dominos, which recorded the album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, featuring the song Layla. Alongside his work in bands, he built a solo career and released albums and songs over several decades.
Among the standout songs and albums of his solo career are the cover of I Shot the Sheriff, the album Slowhand, and the song Tears in Heaven. Clapton also recorded the album Unplugged, and in 1996 reached the charts again with Change the World. His latest studio album, Meanwhile, was released in 2024.
The transition between blues and rock ensembles and songs written and recorded under his name gives the audience several different entry points to his music. Those who know Clapton through Cream can come to the show with a memory of the band's sound, and those who grew up on his solo songs will find the connection through songs like Tears in Heaven. These are different chapters in a long career, and not a story of just one style.
Clapton has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times: as a solo artist and as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream. He has won 18 Grammy Awards and a BRIT Award for outstanding contribution to music. Alongside recordings and performances, he founded in 1998 a center in Antigua that helps people in the process of recovery from addiction.
