Mestalla is one of Europe's special stadiums, and the 2026/27 season is its last — after 103 years, Valencia are moving to the new Nou Mestalla stadium, whose construction resumed in January 2025 and is due to finish in summer 2027. What makes Mestalla what it is is the slope: the upper tier stands at around 34 to 35 degrees, right at the edge of the 37-degree limit allowed under FIFA and UEFA standards, which is why it's considered the steepest stadium in Europe. The feeling from up top is of a vertical wall looking down on the pitch. Capacity is 49,430 seats, and the structure is British in character — four separate stands rather than a continuous bowl: the Tribuna on the west side, which is the main stand and actually the smallest; Avinguda d'Aragó in the east, the largest; and behind the goals, Gol Nord and Gol Sud, known locally as "the big goal" and "the small goal." The stadium sits within the city, about a kilometre and a half from its centre. Address: Avinguda de Suècia, 46010 València.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for a Valencia match?
Individual tickets for Valencia matches at Mestalla are sold on the official website, in blocks of several matchdays together. The last season at Mestalla has made tickets especially sought-after. The 2026/27 season-ticket campaign is open to renewals only — there are no new sign-ups at all, except for about two hundred spots in the ultras stand opened to club members aged 16 to 30. What is open to an outside visitor is a regular online sale of individual tickets on the official website, and the club releases them in blocks of several matchdays together. Pricing is dynamic and rises the closer you get to the match, so buying early is better. A trick worth knowing: a season-ticket holder who isn't coming can release their seat up to three hours before the gates open, and the seat goes back on general sale — meaning even when it says "sold out," it's worth refreshing the match page in the days and hours before it. TikTik secures tickets for Valencia matches without relying on this window.
How do you get to Mestalla stadium?
You reach Mestalla by metro line 5 to Aragón station, which sits right opposite the stadium in the heart of Valencia. It's especially easy, because the stadium is within the city and not out in the suburbs. From the city centre it's about a kilometre and a half walk, roughly 20 minutes. By metro: Aragón station on line 5 sits right opposite the stadium, and Facultats station on line 3 is also nearby — from the city centre you board at Xàtiva or Colón. City buses 10, 32, 71 and 80 stop in the area. From the high-speed rail station Joaquín Sorolla, where AVE trains stop, there's a free shuttle to the nearby Nord station, and from there the metro from Xàtiva is three stops to Aragó.
Is there parking at Mestalla stadium?
Yes, there's parking near Mestalla: the APK2 car park on Plaça Alfredo Candel street, a few minutes from the gate. Street parking around Mestalla fills up very early on match day, so it's best to assume in advance that you'll be paying for a car park. The closest is APK2 — underground, covered, with round-the-clock security, about a four-minute walk from the Aragó metro station and a few minutes from the gate, and you can book a space in it online in advance. Another alternative is the Primado Reig car park, about a 13-minute walk. The simple recommendation: come by metro — line 5 drops you right at the gate.
How do you get from Israel to a Valencia match?
For a Valencia match you fly to the local airport, and from there metro line 5 goes directly to Mestalla. There are two ways, and one of them is especially convenient. The direct way: a flight to Valencia Airport, about ten kilometres west of the city. The terminal itself has a metro station, and line 5 goes directly from it to Aragó station opposite the stadium — from the plane to the pitch with no changes at all, about 20 to 30 minutes, trains every quarter hour. The second way: a flight to Madrid and from there a high-speed train to Valencia Joaquín Sorolla station — about 301 kilometres, an hour and 54 minutes on high-speed trains, about 26 trains a day, run by three competing companies.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where's the best place to sit at Mestalla?
At Mestalla the loud side is Gol Nord, and in the upper tiers the slope is extreme — 34 to 35 degrees. First, a genuine warning: anyone uncomfortable with heights will feel the slope — it's best to choose a lower tier. The loud side is Gol Nord, home to the official ultras stand and where the organised fan group Curva Nord gathers, around two thousand people, and that's where the singing and choreography come from. The Tribuna stand in the west is the main one, home to the benches and the tunnel, and gives the best viewing angle. Away fans sit in the northeast corner, in the upper tier, with an especially small allocation of only about 508 seats — for the derby against Levante they sold out within 32 minutes.
What's special about Valencia?
The 2026/27 season is Valencia's last season at Mestalla, after 103 years at the stadium. Mestalla opened in 1923 and is one of the oldest and steepest stadiums in Europe — every match this season is a last chance to see it. The new stadium, Nou Mestalla, was stalled for almost 15 years until work resumed on 10 January 2025; by mid-2026 it stood at about 76% complete, a 4,800-tonne roof was raised on 50 steel columns, and the club plans to open it in summer 2027 with a capacity of 70,044 seats according to its own figures. In charge is Carlos Corberán, appointed at Christmas 2024 when the team was in 19th place and in danger of relegation; he saved them, and on 6 July 2026 extended his contract until 2028. The local nicknames: Los Che and Murciélagos, the bats, after the animal on the city's coat of arms.
What's the big match for Valencia in the 2026/27 season?
Valencia's big match is the very last league match ever at Mestalla, on 16 May 2027. It's matchday 37 against Elche, and it's the ticket everyone will want. Until then: the season's first home match takes place on Saturday 22 August 2026 at 19:30 against Celta Vigo, and the matchday-one game against Real Betis was postponed because of the World Cup and will be played on Tuesday 25 August at 21:00 — also at Mestalla. Barcelona arrive as early as Sunday 6 September 2026 at 16:15, Real Madrid on Sunday 8 November, and Atlético Madrid on 2 May 2027. The Valencia derby against Levante is played away on 3 January 2027 and at home on 7 March. Note: La Liga only confirms kick-off times about four to five weeks in advance, so anyone booking a flight early knows the weekend but not the day or the time — it's best to plan a stay of a few nights around the matchday.
