Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino sits in the Santa Rita district in the south of the city, about seven kilometres from central Turin, between Corso Sebastopoli and Via Filadelfia. It was built in 1933 and already hosted matches at the 1934 World Cup — but not, oddly enough, Torino themselves, who in those years played at the Filadelfia ground they owned. Only from the late 1950s did the Granata move to this stadium, and it hosted both of the city's clubs until 1990. One of the great moments in the history of Italian football happened here: on 11 May 1947 Italy beat Hungary 3-2 with a line-up in which ten of the eleven players were from Torino — the highest number ever from a single club in the national team. The major renovation was carried out for the Turin Winter Olympics in 2006, in a design that had to preserve the protected historic structure: vertical structures were added carrying a roof over the whole facility, and a third tier of stands with hospitality boxes. A nice engineering detail — about a third of the roofing material is semi-transparent plastic, so the shade wouldn't damage the grass. In February 2006 the stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games, and over the years also the Rolling Stones, Police and Madonna. Capacity today is about 28,000 seats — the club itself states 28,177 — across three tiers of stands with 52 entry and exit gates.
FAQ
How do you get tickets for a Torino match?
Tickets for Torino are sold through three official channels: the club website, authorised points of sale, and the stadium box office. There are three official sales channels: online through the club website, at the authorised points of sale of the club's ticketing system, and at the stadium's north box office — which opens two hours before kick-off on matchday. Buying online requires opening an account on the Torino website; registration asks only for name, date of birth and email, with no Italian address and no tax code required, which makes it much easier for a tourist. A question the club answers explicitly on its own site: can a foreigner, including a tourist, buy a ticket without a fan card? The official answer is yes — you can buy a regular ticket even without the 'Cuore Granata' card. That card, required for a season ticket, grants a dedicated pre-sale stage for big matches, but it isn't a condition for a regular purchase. Something worth knowing: matches open for sale gradually, not all at once — when we checked, out of all of the season's home matches only the next two had active sales, and all the rest were marked 'date and time to be confirmed' with no buy button. There's a limit of four tickets per person, and under Italian law the ticket is personalised — transferring it to someone else can only be done through an official name-change process. Accepted for purchase are ID card, driving licence or passport, and valid photo ID is mandatory at the stadium entrance. And the obstacle most important to know about: before every big match the government sports-events authority imposes sales restrictions that vary from match to match. At the opening match against Milan, for example, both Curva stands were sold only to holders of the fan card, and sales in all the Distinti stands were banned to residents of the Lombardy region. These restrictions are only published close to the match, and there's no way to know them in advance. Payment methods aren't a problem — international credit cards and digital wallets are accepted. TikTik secures tickets for Torino matches at the Olimpico without waiting for a sales window to open and without relying on a decision published at the last minute.
How do you get to Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino?
You reach Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino with a combination of metro and bus — there's no metro station at the stadium itself. The stadium takes up a whole block between Via Filadelfia, Piazzale Grande Torino, Corso Sebastopoli and Corso Agnelli, and each stand has an entrance from a different side — so a few different addresses circulate online. The entrance to the Tribuna is from Via Filadelfia 96/B, and the box office and the Maratona stand are on the Corso Sebastopoli side. It's important to know there's no metro station at the stadium itself. The transport operator GTT describes getting there as a combination: metro and then bus line 4, changing at Porta Nuova station, or metro and then line 10, changing at Vinzaglio station. The lines that reach the stadium area are 4, 10, 14 and 63. And here's a warning worth reading, because it contradicts GTT's own website: their 2022 stadium page still lists dashed line 17, but their official service notice for August 2026 states explicitly that this line isn't running until 12 September. Don't plan around it. Another August detail: line 10 runs that month on a holiday-schedule route, ending at Piazzale Caio Mario next to the stadium. Line 4 runs as normal on the southern section that serves the stadium (the restriction that does exist on it is at the northern end of the line and doesn't concern you). As for the metro itself — it's closed on some Sundays in August for a route change with replacement buses, so it's worth checking on matchday. And finally, to be honest: GTT doesn't publish any special line or matchday shuttle, so we won't write that there is one. What is documented on matchday is the opposite — certain lines get diverted in the area.
Is there parking at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino?
Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino has no car park of its own, and the transport operator recommends parking at the nearby Caio Mario car park. The stadium has no car park of its own, and no official source publishes a public stadium car park. Instead, the transport operator GTT itself recommends parking at the nearby Caio Mario car park and continuing from there on lines 4 or 10. On matchday there are parking bans in the area, and here there's an important difference from other cities: in Turin the bans aren't a standing municipal order but are imposed case by case by the police together with the event security committee, and are published ahead of each match separately. The deputy mayor said so explicitly in response to residents' complaints. What is consistent: Via Reinaud, in the Caio Mario area, is regularly included in the no-parking zones on sports-event days — to clear space for away fans' coaches. Historically, such orders have also included closing Via Filadelfia to traffic and banning parking on it in the hours around the match. The practical conclusion is simple: come by public transport. Anyone who does arrive by car — park in the Caio Mario area and finish the trip on line 4 or 10, and check the notices for that specific match before setting out.
How do you get from Israel to a Torino match?
For a Torino match from Israel you fly to Milan and continue overland — no direct flight to Turin that's actually on sale was found. Let's start with a fact that saves unnecessary planning: we didn't find a direct flight from Tel Aviv to Turin that's actually on sale. We checked live on a flight-search engine on four different dates across the season, and all of them returned zero direct options. Route databases that do show a direct flight contradict each other on which airline operates it, so we won't name one here. The way is to fly to Milan and continue overland. What we did see actually being sold on the Tel Aviv–Milan Malpensa route: El Al, Arkia and Wizz Air Malta; and to Bergamo we also saw Blue Bird. Flight time is about four hours ten to fifteen minutes. Note that the mix of airlines changes from date to date — on one date we checked only one airline appeared, and on another, three — so we won't state how many flights a week there are. From Malpensa to Turin there's no direct train: you take the Malpensa Express train from the terminal to Milan station, about 51 minutes with two departures every hour, and from there a high-speed Trenitalia or Italo train to Turin. There's also a direct bus between Turin and Malpensa, fifteen round trips a day to both terminals, arriving at the bus station on Corso Bolzano — its journey time isn't published on the operator's website, so don't plan a tight schedule around it. And for anyone who does find a flight to Turin Caselle: the train station is right opposite the arrivals area, and the train reaches Porta Susa station in about half an hour, seven days a week, from 06:00 in the morning to 22:28 in the evening. There's also bus line 268 to the airport, which stops at Porta Nuova and Porta Susa, every 15 to 30 minutes. A warning for anyone reading old guides: the commonly seen advice about 'a train to Dora station then bus 52' is outdated — since January 2024 the line has been connected directly to Porta Susa. And from the station to the stadium: from Porta Susa, metro to Porta Nuova or to Vinzaglio, and from there line 4 or 10.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where's the best place to sit at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino?
Grande Torino has four stands — two Curve, the Distinti Granata and the Tribunes — and there's an official family stand, Distinti Family. The stadium has four sides with clear names. In the north, Curva Maratona, with entrances from Corso Agnelli and Corso Sebastopoli. In the south, Curva Primavera, entrance from Via Filadelfia. In the east, Distinti Granata, entrance from Corso Sebastopoli — and the club itself recommends entering through the Corso Galileo Ferraris gate to avoid the crowding at the Maratona end. In the west sit the Tribunes: Tribuna Grande Torino, Tribuna Giorgio Ferrini, and the poltroncina and box areas. For families there's a dedicated, officially defined stand: Distinti Family, on the Maratona side of the Distinti. Away fans sit in the southeast corner, between the Distinti and Curva Primavera, with their own separate entrance on Via Filadelfia — and their tickets close for sale at 19:00 the day before the match, with no matchday sale and no transfer allowed. Two points of honesty about the stands. First: the club doesn't define anywhere official which stand is the 'ultras stand,' so we won't claim it does; what is official is that both Curva stands were sold at the opening match only to holders of Torino's fan card. Second: on the roofing the club states only one sentence — that the 2006 renovation added structures carrying a roof over the whole facility. There's no roofing table by stand, so we won't detail one. On entry: valid ID is mandatory — the club's official ten-point rules say that without it there's no purchase and no entry — and stewards check that the name on the ticket matches the person presenting it. Children under 14 are only admitted accompanied by a parent or guardian. Gates open 120 minutes before the match. There are metal detectors at every gate, and body and bag searches are permitted. The list of banned items is long and includes, among others, bottles, glass, cans, lighters, coins, laser pointers, drones, SLR cameras and video cameras, binoculars, helmets, large or pointed umbrellas, fireworks and alcohol; mobile phones are allowed for personal use only. Entry is one-time only — anyone who leaves may not return. For accessibility there's a separate registration process by dedicated email, requiring a full disability certificate and an adult companion, with entry from the east side. And to close, two things worth stating plainly: the club publishes no bag-size limit, no bag ban and no bag-check service — so we won't invent numbers; and there's also no rule in the regulations banning wearing the away team's colours in the home stands. The real restriction that does exist is on sales, by area of residence and loyalty card, and it's set separately for every match. And yes — the regulations currently published on the website are still the 2025/26 edition; a version for the current season hasn't been published yet.
What's special about Torino's 2026/27 season?
The 2026/27 season is Torino's 120th, and it opens with a new manager — Ignazio Abate. It's the club's 120th season. Torino were founded in 1906, and the official announcement that opened the June season-ticket campaign puts it this way: 'This season carries with it an anniversary that belongs to everyone — a hundred and twenty years to keep safe.' On the bench sits a new manager: Ignazio Abate, whose appointment the club announced on 12 June 2026 on a contract until June 2028, and who took up the role on 1 July. Abate has a personal connection to the club — he played for Torino in the 2008/09 season, before 306 appearances for Milan and 22 caps for Italy; as a coach he led Milan's youth side to the semi-final and final of the Youth League, and managed Ternana and Juve Stabia. The sporting background: last season ended in 12th place with 45 points from 38 matches — 12 wins, 9 draws and 17 defeats, a negative goal difference. That season's last match was fittingly a derby, Torino against Juventus, 2-2 at the Olimpico. In the summer, Gaetano Oristanio arrived on loan with an option from Venezia, Pietro Comuzzo on the same terms from Fiorentina, Diego Mascardi in an outright transfer from Spezia, Swiss centre-back Arey Tchoumert and Kian Fitz-Jim from Ajax — and Duán Zapata's contract was extended until 2028. Note that the transfer window is still open, so the squad may still change. And if you saw online that Giovanni Simeone joined or that Milinković-Savić left this summer — that's old information, both those announcements are from summer 2025. One last point, aimed at anyone planning a flight: there's talk online of a renovation of the Olimpico. Torino have submitted only an expression of interest to the city council, at the proposal stage, and Turin's mayor said explicitly in July that the team will play at the Olimpico this season. We checked this against both the official fixture list and the club's official calendar file: all 19 home matches are scheduled at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino. There's no doubt here.
What's the big match for Torino in the 2026/27 season?
Torino's big match is the Derby della Mole against Juventus, and the home derby is scheduled in the official fixture list for 4 April 2027. Derby della Mole against Juventus — one of the oldest and most charged rivalries in Italy, with both clubs sharing the same city. This season's fixture list gave it an especially unusual setting: the away match at the Allianz Stadium is on Wednesday, 6 January 2027 — Epiphany, the Italian holiday that opens the year, a midweek match that effectively opens the 2027 calendar. The home derby at the Olimpico is on Sunday, 4 April 2027, and it's the season's big home match. Alongside it, a genuinely impressive home schedule: Milan in the opening match, Sunday 23 August 2026 at 20:45 — the only match with a confirmed kick-off time; Roma on 13 September, Lazio on 29 November, Atalanta on 10 January 2027, Inter on 14 March 2027, the derby on 4 April, and finally Napoli on 23 May 2027 — the season's last home match. And now the warning that matters most for anyone buying a flight: don't rely on the times shown in the fixture list. From matchday 6 onward the fixture list shows 'Sunday 15:00' on every match, and that's a default, not an actual scheduling — the official website itself states that the list will be updated with final dates and times later. In particular, don't assume a time for the derby. Even the exact day can shift: the official fixture list puts the home derby on Sunday 4 April, while other sources say 3 April — the weekend is certain, the final day is set by TV scheduling closer to the event. The dates are good for planning; confirm the time closer to the date.
