Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, whose name was San Paolo until 2020, sits in the Fuorigrotta district in western Naples. It's built as a round bowl of three tiers, of which two are in use — the third is closed — with about 54,700 seats in total. The name was changed in memory of Diego Maradona, who turned this club into a legend and the city into his holy ground. Major renovation works, at a scale of about €200 million ahead of Euro 2032, began in 2026 — but the Naples municipality has stated explicitly that they won't reduce the number of seats, since the third tier will be restored first to compensate; the target is about 60,000 seats by 2030. Napoli's crowd is considered one of the most passionate and loudest in Italy. Note that the stadium is built around an athletics track, so the distance from the pitch is relatively large — but the volume and choreography more than make up for it.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for a Napoli match?
A single Napoli ticket is sold in three stages, and the last of them is a free sale open to everyone. Napoli deliberately caps season tickets at 25,000, so there's leftover single-match inventory for every match. And that's good news for a visitor from abroad. Single-match sale works in three stages: first for holders of the club's loyalty card (up to four tickets), then for members of the premium program (one ticket), and finally free sale for everyone, up to four tickets, explicitly without needing a loyalty card. That means an Israeli can buy through the official channel — but only if seats remain by the third stage, and for the big matches against Juventus, Inter, Milan, Roma, and Champions League nights that almost never happens. Worth knowing too: the loyalty card is sent physically within about 15 days, so it isn't a solution for someone booking a short trip. And as in all of Serie A — the ticket is name-registered, and a matching passport is checked at entry. TikTik obtains tickets for Napoli matches even for matches that don't reach the free-sale stage.
How do you get to the Maradona stadium?
You get to the Maradona stadium on the Cumana railway to the Mostra – Stadio Maradona stop, a seven-minute walk. This is the closest station, about 550 meters from the entrance. From Napoli Centrale: metro line 2 toward Pozzuoli to Campi Flegrei station, a 15-to-18-minute ride and then about a ten-minute walk. An important warning for an evening match: metro line 6 also stops at Mostra, but it ends service on weekdays around 21:10 — meaning it won't help you after an evening match. There are also buses to Piazzale Tecchio next to the stadium, but with Naples traffic the ride can take about an hour. The common recommendation: arrive about an hour and a half before kickoff.
Is there parking at the Maradona stadium?
The Maradona stadium has no dedicated public car park, but there's an official park-and-ride service called Park&Gol. And that's exactly what makes the official solution interesting: it's run by the club together with the city transit company — a guarded lot in the Bagnoli neighborhood, about two and a half kilometers from the stadium, which includes parking for one car and a round-trip shuttle for up to five passengers for three euros total. The first shuttle leaves at 16:00 and then every quarter hour, and the ride takes about ten minutes. There are also private lots around Piazzale Tecchio that can be booked in advance. Bottom line: the train is preferable, and if you do drive — Park&Gol.
How do you get from Israel to a Napoli match?
There are flights to Naples' Capodichino airport, and a convenient alternative is Rome plus a high-speed train. Capodichino is very close to the city. As of now there's no metro line to the airport — the Alibus shuttle connects it to Napoli Centrale station and the port for five euros, running every 15 to 25 minutes, and the ticket is valid for 90 minutes including a connecting ride. A metro station for the airport is expected to open between late 2026 and early 2027 and will shorten the ride to the center to nine minutes. A very convenient alternative: fly to Rome and take a high-speed train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale — 188 kilometers in about an hour and six to eight minutes, at high frequency throughout the day.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where's the best place to sit at the Maradona stadium?
At the Maradona stadium the Distinti stand is the good choice for a tourist, and Curva B is the heart of the fans. The two curvas are the heart of the atmosphere, but Curva B is the historic, organized ultras' stand — the birthplace of the choreography and coordinated drumming, and home since 1972 to the group that essentially invented Italian tifo culture. It's also the largest section in the stadium. Curva A is the opposite curva and is considered more aggressive. The practical recommendation for a tourist: the Distinti stand is the best balance — close enough to the curvas to feel the atmosphere, with an excellent view, and without the risks and restrictions that come with the curvas. For a tactical, relaxed view: the Posillipo or Nisida tribune in the upper tier of the main stand. Away fans get about 2,482 seats with a separate, controlled entrance at gate 26 — the exact location varies and appears in the official guide for each match.
What's special about Napoli's 2026/27 season?
The 2026/27 season is Napoli's centenary season — the club was founded on 1 August 1926. The whole year will carry that theme. But what truly sets this club apart is the bond between it and the city: in Naples, football isn't a sport but an identity, and Diego Maradona — who brought two league titles to the poor city of the south against the giants of the north in the 1980s — is regarded there as a genuine saint, with shrines on the streets and murals in every neighborhood. The stadium is named after him. After the Scudetto of 2024/25 and a second-place finish last season, a new chapter has opened: Massimiliano Allegri — one of the most decorated coaches in Italy — was appointed in place of Antonio Conte on a contract until 2029. Among the summer reinforcements: striker Rasmus Højlund from Manchester United.
What's Napoli's big match in the 2026/27 season?
Napoli's big match is against Juventus at the Maradona stadium, on 14 February 2027. Valentine's Day, and also the most heated rivalry in Italian football: south against north, a meeting Naples marks on the calendar before anything else. Other big home matches: Roma at the end of October 2026, Milan in mid-December, and Inter — the champions — at the end of January 2027. At the same time Napoli plays in the Champions League league phase by virtue of its second-place finish: four European nights at the Maradona, whose opponents will be set in the draw on 27 August 2026 in Nyon. Napoli actually opens the league away, against Genoa on 22 August 2026, and its first home match takes place in matchday two against Como. A planning note: Serie A sets exact days and times only a few matchdays in advance, so don't book a fixed flight based on an estimated date.
