Estadio de Balaídos sits in the southwest of the city of Vigo, in Galicia, and since 2015 it has been undergoing reconstruction stand by stand. Three stands — Tribuna, Río and Marcador — are already finished and modern; the fourth, the Gol Stand, was the last remnant of the old stadium, was demolished, and its reconstruction began in March 2025 with an investment of €25.6 million. What that means for anyone arriving in the first half of the season: the stadium is operating at a reduced capacity of about 23,000, and you'll see a ground with three-and-a-half stands. Vigo City Council handed over about 791 new seats in the lower rows of the Gol Stand back in July 2026, and the completed stand — between 6,400 and about 7,000 seats — is expected to open around January 2027, at which point total capacity will rise to about 30,200. Even at this reduced capacity the crowd fills the ground: average attendance last season stood at 87.7 percent, the third highest in La Liga. The four streets surrounding the stadium are what gave the stands their names.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for a Celta Vigo match?
Tickets for Celta Vigo matches go on sale first to Carné Celtista members, and to the general public 24 hours later. They're hard to get, because capacity is reduced during construction. The club has two types of membership: abono, a season pass with a fixed seat, and Carné Celtista, membership without a seat — it gives priority when buying single tickets and is also the only way onto the season-ticket waiting list. The numbers explain everything: about 20,000 season-ticket holders, more than 43,000 members in total, 7,544 people on the waiting list, a 99 percent renewal rate in the June 2026 window, and the club took on only about two hundred new members — because it's saving the expansion for when the new Gol Stand opens. Single tickets have an official online sale, which opens first to Carné Celtista members and to the general public exactly 24 hours later. Most of the stock that reaches general sale comes from season-ticket holders returning seats they won't use. TikTik obtains tickets for Celta matches without membership and without waiting in line.
How do you get to Balaídos Stadium?
You get to Balaídos Stadium by bus line 5A from central Vigo, about 20 minutes from the train station. The stadium is in the Coia neighborhood in southwest Vigo, about three and a half kilometers from the central Vigo-Urzáiz train station — about a 40-minute walk, or about 20 minutes by bus on line 5A, which leaves from Urzáiz street; by taxi it's a ride of just about six minutes. From the city center you can also get there on lines 16, 23, 27 and A operated by Vitrasa, and the nearest stops — Citroën, Porta Principal and Manuel de Castro — are about a three-minute walk from the gates. After the match, the club and the city council run three dedicated shuttle lines, named after the stands — Río, Marcador and Gol — which leave from the car park opposite the Tribuna stand on Avenida de Fragoso.
Is there parking at Balaídos Stadium?
Yes, Balaídos has free parking near the Tribuna stand, but it fills up very early on match day. The parking lot, free of charge, is on Avenida de Fragoso — this is also where the shuttle lines leave from after the match. The alternative recommended by the club itself is the underground car park at Plaza de América, about a ten-minute walk from the ground, where you can book a spot through an app — and under a club promotion, parking there becomes free if Celta wins. There is also street parking, partly paid, along Avenida de Castrelos. The city council explicitly recommends public transport, because the residential streets around the ground get closed off.
How do you get from Israel to a Celta Vigo match?
For a Celta Vigo match, you fly to Madrid and continue on a domestic connection or by high-speed train — there is no direct flight. Vigo is in the northwestern corner of Spain and there's no direct flight to it from Israel. The local airport, Vigo-Peinador, is about nine kilometers from the city but operates only domestic and short-haul flights — Madrid is its main route, with about seven to nine flights a day. So the usual route is a flight to Madrid or Barcelona with a domestic connection to Vigo. A land alternative: a Renfe high-speed train from Madrid-Chamartín station to Vigo-Urzáiz station — a journey of a little over four hours. You can also fly to Porto in Portugal, which is relatively close, and continue overland.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where should you sit at Balaídos?
At Balaídos, the loudest stand is Marcador Baixo, home to the club's official supporters' section. A clear sign of this: season-ticket holders in this section are the only ones who aren't allowed to transfer their seat to someone else. Tribuna, along Avenida de Fragoso, is the main stand with the seating and hospitality areas, and opposite it is Río. Away fans, meanwhile, sit in the Río Alto corner, in an allocation of just over a thousand seats, and according to the club's map they will move to part of the Gol Alto stand once the new stand opens. Note that old seating maps circulating online are not updated for the construction status — it's best to rely only on the club's map for the current season.
What's special about Celta Vigo?
Celta Vigo are the team of Galicia, a region with its own identity, language and culture in northwestern Spain. The club carries that identity openly — the local nicknames Os Celestes and O Celtiña are in Galician, not Spanish. Coach Claudio Giráldez was born in Vigo itself, was promoted from the reserve side Celta Fortuna in March 2024, and in April 2026 extended his contract until June 2028 — a home-grown rise that isn't a given in today's football. Last season he took the team to sixth place and a second straight European season. One more thing worth knowing about this season: it's likely the last for Iago Aspas, the club's great symbol.
What is Celta Vigo's big match in the 2026/27 season?
Celta Vigo's big match is the Galicia derby against Deportivo, at Balaídos on 3 January 2027. The Galicia derby is back: Deportivo La Coruña have returned to La Liga, and the Galician derby will be held at Balaídos on 3 January 2027 — right around the time the new Gol Stand is due to open, meaning in front of the season's biggest crowd. The return match at Riazor is held in mid-April 2027. At the same time, Celta are playing in the Europa League for the second straight time: sixth place in La Liga earned the spot, the draw is held on 28 August 2026 in Monaco, so the opponents and home match dates in Europe are not yet known. In the league there's a detail worth knowing for planning: the home opener against Osasuna, set for 16 August 2026, was postponed — a fungus that spread across the Balaídos pitch forced the league to move it, and the announcement came on 13 August. The match was rescheduled to Thursday 27 August 2026 at Balaídos, and that is now Celta's first home match of the season. Atlético Madrid come on 20 December, Real Madrid on 21 March 2027 and Barcelona on 21 April.
