About the stadium
Stadio Renato Dall'Ara stands at Via Andrea Costa 174, in the Costa-Saragozza district — about three kilometers from the center of Bologna. It was inaugurated on 29 May 1927, and this season it celebrates exactly one hundred years. It was built as a complete sports complex, not just a football pitch: a six-lane running track, two swimming pools, and four tennis courts. Its debut match was Italy against Spain, 2:0, in front of about 55,000 spectators. Architecturally it is built from the red bricks typical of Bologna with arched windows, and it is considered a model that many Italian stadiums later copied. Its most recognizable feature is the Torre di Maratona, the brick tower that stands beside the Distinti stand. The stadium hosted matches at the 1934 World Cup, was fully renovated for the 1990 World Cup, and received its current name in 1983 after club president Renato Dall'Ara. A nice detail the club itself tells: beneath the grass, at a depth of one meter, lies a layer of river stones that creates natural drainage channels — which is why the pitch has needed almost no full re-turfing in about ninety years. The listed capacity is about 36,532 seats, but note that the actual permitted capacity for a match is lower than that, and the exact number for this season has not been published. The stadium is not fully covered — only one stand officially carries the name Tribuna Coperta, meaning 'the covered stand'.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for a Bologna match?
Tickets for a Bologna match are bought on the club's website without a fan card, but the ticket is personalized. Bologna's official ticketing system is accessible through the tickets page on the club's website. Good news for tourists: the club's fan card, called the 'We Are One Card', is not required to buy a ticket for a regular home match — it only grants purchase priority for in-demand matches. This season the club even removed the requirement to hold it in order to buy a season ticket. It's worth knowing that the ticket page in the ticketing system still states the opposite, and both pages are official — the club's new announcement is the up-to-date one. What is genuinely difficult: under Italian law the ticket is personalized, meaning every spectator holds a ticket in their own name for a specific seat, and a valid ID must be shown both at purchase and at entry — including for children. And here is the real obstacle for tourists: a seasonal directive from the government authority for sporting events states that purchase is permitted only on presentation of a document showing place of residence, and a driver's license is not accepted. An Israeli passport does not state a residential address, and we found no official instruction explaining what is accepted from a foreign tourist — so this is a point worth preparing for in advance rather than discovering at the gate. Sales open in stages: pre-sale for season-ticket holders, then for fan-card holders and sometimes also for Bologna residents, and only then general sale — and in the pre-sale there is a limit of one ticket per person, only through the website. There is also a channel that releases seats for a match that looks sold out: digital season-ticket holders may return their seat for sale from five days down to 48 hours before the match, and those seats go back into the regular sale pool. Payment methods are not an obstacle — international credit cards, digital wallets, and a registration form that supports an Israeli address are all accepted. TikTik secures tickets for Bologna matches at Dall'Ara without chasing sale windows and without getting tangled in the Italian documentation requirements.
How do you get to Stadio Dall'Ara?
You get to Stadio Dall'Ara on bus line 21, the only one that stops at both the central train station and the Stadio stop. The address is Via Andrea Costa 174. According to the club itself, the stadium is about three kilometers from the city center, about three and a half from the central train station, and about seven from the airport. The municipal transport operator TPER states that service to the stadium on Bologna match days is provided by municipal lines 14, 20 and 21, and the stop is simply called 'Stadio' on Via Andrea Costa, about 170 meters from the stadium building. But reading the official timetables themselves, valid through mid-September, gives a more precise picture worth knowing: line 21 is the only one that stops at both the central train station (platform E) and the Stadio stop — that's your line from the train. Line 14 does stop at Stadio, but it doesn't reach the central station, only the city center. And line 20 doesn't stop at Stadio at all — it drops passengers at Meloncello, a few hundred meters away. TPER itself phrases this carefully, saying it guarantees the ability to reach 'nearby stops' to the stadium. On match day a special line 77 also runs, starting two hours before kickoff, departing every twenty minutes, passing through the central station and the Tanari car park, and reaching the stadium; afterward, buses wait on Via Andrea Costa. Note that the name 'T20' circulates online for this shuttle — that's wrong, the official source says 77. And very important: line 77 is not a regular line. It doesn't appear at all in TPER's line catalog and has no timetable — it exists only on match days. Second warning: on match day the lines in the area are diverted for public-order reasons, before, during and after the match. And a third warning, the most important of all: the club's own official arrival page is outdated. It still sends the traveler from the airport on a shuttle that no longer exists, and from there on 'line 77' to a stop called Montefiorino — a line that doesn't run on a regular day, to a stop that isn't the stadium stop. Don't follow it. Follow line 21.
Is there parking at Stadio Dall'Ara?
There is a car park right next to Stadio Dall'Ara, but on home match days it is closed to the public — park at Tanari instead. And it's worth reading this paragraph to the end. Parcheggio Antistadio on Via Andrea Costa is a public car park owned by the City of Bologna, about 283 spaces, open 24 hours a day. But the city's official usage regulations state explicitly that on Bologna home match days the car park is reserved for the club's exclusive use, that all users must vacate it by midnight of the day before the match, and that an unauthorized vehicle will be towed at the owner's expense. In other words: on exactly the day you'd want it, it's closed to you. (The version of the regulations we found dates from 2018 and is the most current the city publishes; it may have changed since, so it's worth checking close to the match — but don't plan on this car park.) The correct official solution is park-and-ride at the Tanari car park, on Via Luigi Tanari 17: from there the special match-day line 77 runs to the stadium and back, and according to TPER, parking there is free for anyone riding that line. The regular shuttle lines C and T2 from the central station also reach the Tanari car park. And a warning whose numbers speak for themselves: the municipal police announced in January 2026 that since June 2025 more than a thousand parking violations have been recorded in the areas next to the stadium during matches and concerts — most of them parking on green areas. The area is saturated, and there is enforcement. Away fans have a separate, defined arrangement: parking on Via Portazza and Via Don Luigi Sturzo, with entry at the San Luca stand gate on Via Menabue. Anyone who still arrives by car from the highway — the club publishes the route: from the A1, A13 and A14 highways, exit at Bologna Casalecchio, then to exit 1 of the ring road toward the center. One last reassuring point: Bologna's restricted traffic zone is the historic center only, and the stadium is about a kilometer and a half west of it — the route to it from the highway doesn't pass through it. But if after the match you want to drive into the historic center, that's where you do need to be careful.
How do you get from Israel to a Bologna match?
There is no direct flight from Tel Aviv to Bologna — you fly to Milan and continue by high-speed train for about an hour. This is a fact that saves disappointment: as of today there is no direct flight from Tel Aviv to Bologna actually on sale. Bologna's airport does not list Tel Aviv among its destinations, and route databases show zero flights per month. There were two separate announcements of a seasonal route, from two different airlines, and neither of them is actually selling it — so we won't name a specific airline here. There's a hint of a route starting in September, but that's an announcement, not a ticket, and it should be checked directly with the airlines close to the date. The practical route is to fly to a nearby destination and continue by high-speed train, and Bologna sits right on Italy's high-speed rail axis — so this is easy. The most convenient route: Milan Malpensa, then the Malpensa Express train to Milan's station — about 51 minutes, departures at 25 and 55 past every hour, from 05:25 to 23:25 — then Frecciarossa or Italo to Bologna Centrale station, about an hour to an hour and a quarter, at a very high frequency. Alternatives: Rome Fiumicino, then the Leonardo Express train direct to Roma Termini in about 32 minutes every quarter hour, then to Bologna in about two hours; or Venice, with a bus to Venezia Mestre station in about twenty minutes and a train to Bologna in about an hour and a half. Bergamo also works — a bus to Milan's station in about an hour and then the same train. These are the regular times, and there is one important caveat: in mid-August the Italian rail network carries out infrastructure works that noticeably extend journeys on the high-speed lines. If you're flying during that period, check the actual travel time on the rail operator's website for your date and don't rely on the regular time. One last detail worth knowing for anyone landing in Bologna from another destination: from the airport to the center there is the Marconi Express, an elevated electric monorail that takes about seven and a half minutes and stops at just three stations before the central train station, running from 05:40 to midnight every day of the year, with up to eight departures an hour at peak times. Its terminal station is inside the train station itself, on the Via de' Carracci side, and you can transfer to it from the train platforms without leaving the station. During the night hours when it doesn't run, a municipal bus line replaces it.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where's the best place to sit at Stadio Dall'Ara?
The loud stand at Dall'Ara is the Curva Bulgarelli, where Bologna's organized fans sit. This is the heart of the atmosphere — the curve named since 2009 after Giacomo Bulgarelli — where the organized fans sit and where the noise comes from. The curve opposite is the Curva San Luca, named after Árpád Weisz; it's home but quieter, and by the stadium regulations drums and megaphones are explicitly forbidden there. Along the touchlines there are two stands: the Distinti, beside which the Torre di Maratona stands and which is also the accessibility area, and opposite it the Tribuna Coperta — where the name is also the information, 'coperta' means covered, and it's the only stand the club officially defines as such. As for the other stands, the club simply doesn't publish whether they're covered, so we won't claim it. Families have a dedicated area at the end of the Tribuna called Tribuna Kids, and premium areas and a press box sit at the center of the Tribuna. Away fans sit in the Settore Ospiti, a separate wedge at the end of San Luca, about 2,500 seats, with its own entrance on Via Menabue whose gates open two hours before the match. A small note for anyone reading old guides: 'Curva Andrea Costa' is a historical name and not an existing stand — Andrea Costa is the street's name, and the curve is called Bulgarelli today. As for entry itself: a valid ID is required at the gate, and stewards check that the name on the ticket matches the person presenting it; there is a metal-detector check and a body search, and refusing the check means no entry. Smoking, alcohol, glass and plastic bottles, drones, lasers, pyrotechnics and noisemakers are forbidden, as are cameras and recording devices — a mobile phone is allowed for private use. Signs and flags have defined size limits, and in the Tribuna and the Distinti banners and flags are forbidden entirely. Wheelchairs are placed only in the accessibility area in the Distinti or in the away section, regardless of the ticket purchased, and a guide dog requires prior approval. And finally, an honest statement: the bag policy and gate-opening time for the home stands don't appear in the official regulations at all. The 'two hours before' that is published refers only to the away-fans' gate. We won't invent numbers here that have no source.
What's special about Bologna's 2026/27 season?
This season Stadio Dall'Ara celebrates Bologna's one hundred years — it was inaugurated on 29 May 1927. This is the stadium's centenary season, and the club has built the whole year around it: the season-ticket campaign is called 'Every Step Is a Story' and invites fans to return to Dall'Ara match after match, and this season's home shirt is a deliberate tribute to the hundred years, with old-style vertical red-and-blue stripes and a silhouette of the Torre di Maratona. On the bench sits a new coach: Domenico Tedesco, whose appointment the club announced on 2 June 2026 on a contract until 2028 with an option. This is his first time coaching in Serie A after a path that included Schalke, Spartak Moscow, Leipzig — with whom he won the German Cup — the Belgium national team, and Fenerbahçe. He replaced Vincenzo Italiano, who left by mutual agreement at the end of May — and if you saw him listed as coach somewhere, that's outdated information. The sporting background: Bologna finished 2025/26 in eighth place, reached the Europa League quarter-final and was knocked out by Aston Villa, reached the Italian Super Cup final, and in the season before that won the Coppa Italia — its third title in the cup and its first since 1974. The point worth stating honestly for anyone planning a trip: this season Bologna has no European matches. It's a league-and-cup-only season, meaning a shorter home fixture list than in the previous two seasons. On the transfer front, the summer closed around one big move: striker Santiago Castro moved to Roma, and on the same day Artem Dovbyk arrived from Roma on loan with an option — the club's first-ever Ukrainian player. Also arriving were Tommaso Pobega, Amundarain and Alhassane. The transfer window closed on 1 September, so the squad may still change. And finally, a detail circulating in the news that has no bearing on this season: in February the city council cancelled the Dall'Ara renovation project, the temporary stadium that was discussed was never built, and in August a letter of intent was submitted for a brand-new stadium in the fairgrounds area. All of that is in the future — this entire season is played at Dall'Ara.
What's Bologna's big match in the 2026/27 season?
Bologna's big match is the derby against Parma, in the final round at the end of May 2027. This is the Derby dell'Emilia — the two big cities of Emilia-Romagna and the two most decorated clubs of the region, in a rivalry going back to 1983. And this season's fixture list did something almost scripted: the home derby against Parma is the final round of the season, on the weekend of 29–30 May 2027 — meaning Bologna closes the stadium's centenary season with a regional derby at home. The away match at Parma is on 8 November 2026. The second rivalry is the Derby dell'Appennino against Fiorentina: away in Florence on 20 December 2026, and home on 2 May 2027. Alongside the derby, the home fixture list at Dall'Ara is packed: Lazio in the opener on 24 August 2026, champions Inter on 18 October, Roma on 6 December, Juventus on 3 January 2027 — the first opponent of the new year — Milan on 7 February and Napoli on 14 March. And two honest notes before booking a flight. The first: the Italian league has published official kickoff times only for the first five rounds. Every later match has a known weekend but no day or time, and the final scheduling is set close to the event — so don't rely on a time you saw on some website. The second: even the exact day of the closing derby is uncertain — the club itself states 29 May in its season-ticket campaign, which is the exact centenary day of the stadium's opening, while the fixture lists show 30 May. The weekend is certain, the exact day is not.
