The BayArena is one of the most compact and comfortable stadiums in Germany: a fully enclosed bowl with a single roof covering all the stands, 30,210 seats for league matches, and the farthest seat is just 94 metres from the centre of the pitch. The four stands are North, South, East and West: the West is the main stand with the VIP boxes and press, the East is regular seating, and the South is the exception — behind the goal there it's mostly boxes and offices rather than a crowd. The standing section is in the lower part of the North stand, the Nordkurve, and holds about 3,000 spaces; for European matches it's converted to seating and capacity drops to 29,412. Ahead of the 2026/27 season all the stadium's 17-year-old seats were replaced with new black-and-red folding seats, and the old chairs were distributed to fans as souvenirs, to charities and to stadium projects in Ukraine.
FAQ
How do you buy tickets for a Bayer Leverkusen match?
Tickets for a Bayer Leverkusen match are sold according to club membership seniority — more than 70,000 members. The stadium is small and demand exceeds it: last season occupancy stood at about 99.4 percent and thirteen of the seventeen home matches were completely sold out. A season ticket is almost nonexistent — open sale of season tickets was stopped for the first time in the club's history in winter 2023/24, and since then every season ticket that frees up is allocated only through a waiting list that opens for a short registration window once a year. The real key is club membership: Leverkusen has more than 70,000 members, and sales are graded by membership seniority — long-standing members can buy anywhere in the stadium, and new members only in two defined blocks. The early sales phase for the season is held at the end of July, and after it only one home match remains on sale. The practical channel for anyone who isn't a member is the club's official resale exchange, which closes two and a half hours before kickoff. TikTik gets tickets for Leverkusen matches without membership and without a waiting list.
How do you get to the BayArena?
You get to the BayArena by train to Leverkusen Mitte station, about a 20-minute walk from the stadium. An important warning for this season: from August 2026 the rail line between Cologne and Düsseldorf is closed for track and bridge renewal. Lines RE 1 and RE 5 are being diverted, S-Bahn line 6 is suspended on that section, and the Leverkusen Mitte stop is cancelled during this period; regional trains are expected to return in autumn 2026 and the S-Bahn only in December. Anyone traveling between September and December 2026 must check the route in advance. Under normal conditions the trip from Cologne to Leverkusen Mitte station takes only about 13 minutes. An alternative the club itself recommends for people coming from Cologne and Düsseldorf: get off at Chempark station and take the accessible shuttle buses to the stadium from there. And a tip that's worth money: a ticket for a competitive match entitles you to free travel on the VRS and VRR transport networks — but you need to download a separate travel ticket for each match through the club's app.
Is there parking at the BayArena?
No, there is no parking for the public at the BayArena — park for free at the Kurtekotten car park and take the shuttle. The stadium sits inside a residential neighborhood and the club has almost no parking around it — it doesn't sell parking permits at all, and they're allocated only to VIPs, media, sponsors and fans with disabilities. The official solution for anyone arriving by car is the Kurtekotten car park by the Chempark S-Bahn station — free parking, opening two hours before kickoff, and from there free shuttle buses run to a stop a short walk from the stadium, continuing to operate until two hours after the final whistle. Free bicycle parking is available by the northwest entrance. Also note: the gates open two hours before the match, and bags larger than A4 size are not allowed in.
How do you get to a Bayer Leverkusen match from Israel?
For a Bayer Leverkusen match you fly to Düsseldorf or Cologne-Bonn, and continue by train to Leverkusen. Leverkusen sits between Cologne and Düsseldorf, and both airports serve it. From Düsseldorf there's a direct rail connection — line RE 1 stops both at the airport station and at Leverkusen. From Cologne-Bonn Airport you take a train to Cologne main station, about fourteen minutes, and continue on to Leverkusen. Note again the track works starting in August 2026 between Cologne and Düsseldorf — they may change the route, so it's worth checking the journey on the day of booking and again before the flight.
Does an Israeli need a visa to fly to the match?
No. Israelis enter Schengen-area countries visa-free for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and all that's required is a valid passport. Worth knowing what's coming: the European Union is launching the ETIAS authorization system in the last quarter of 2026. Once it takes effect, an online authorization will be required in advance, at a cost of €7, valid for three years or until the passport expires — whichever comes first. As of today the system is not active and no action is required from you. Important warning: the EU warns that many sites impersonate the official site, use the EU logo and charge inflated fees or steal passport and credit card details. There is only one official site — europa.eu/etias — and any address not on the europa.eu domain is not official.
Where is it best to sit at the BayArena?
At the BayArena the strongest atmosphere is in the Nordkurve, a standing section for about 3,000. It's located in the lower part of the North stand, and it's where the club's main supporters' groups gather. In 2024 they published a new code of conduct for the stand under the slogan "ninety minutes focused on the atmosphere": arriving early for the anthem, club colours, and active singing throughout the match. The West stand is the main one, and the East offers comfortable seating with a good view. Away fans sit in the southwest corner and get 2,967 seats — 1,790 standing and 1,177 seated. Overall the reputation here is of a friendly, trouble-free crowd, with a good atmosphere for the size but not among the loudest stands in Germany; the real intensity comes from the North.
What's special about Bayer Leverkusen?
Bayer Leverkusen is a works club — founded by employees of the Bayer pharmaceutical company. Hence the nickname Die Werkself, "the works eleven". For decades it carried the mocking nickname Neverkusen, after a string of frustrating near-misses, until in the 2023/24 season it did the unbelievable: its first-ever Bundesliga title, in a full season unbeaten in the league — the first in German history. Its small, compact stadium, with the farthest seat just 94 metres from the centre, offers one of the best viewing experiences in the Bundesliga. The new coach is 42-year-old Catalan Carles Martínez Novell, who took over the role on 1 July 2026 on a contract until 2028, after a spell at France's Toulouse.
What's Bayer Leverkusen's big match in the 2026/27 season?
Bayer Leverkusen's big match is against Bayern Munich at the BayArena, in matchday 33 in May 2027. It's a home match against the champions just two matchdays before the end of the season, the most sought-after ticket of the year. After it: Borussia Dortmund at home in early April 2027, and the Rhine derby against Cologne — away in November 2026 and at home in March 2027. Note that the club itself has flagged eight marquee matches and limited them to two tickets per person, which tells you exactly where the demand lies. Meanwhile, sixth place in the Bundesliga earned Leverkusen a spot in the Europa League league phase — the draw is on 28 August 2026 and the first matchday is in mid-September. And of particular interest: this season's Europa League final will be held on 26 May 2027 in Frankfurt — that is, in Germany itself. Leverkusen open the league away, and their first home match is in early September against Union Berlin.
